Tent For A Studio
The goal was to design a tent suitable for approximately 50 people that could be easily assembled, disassembled, and fit onto a predefined plot. The approach prioritized the use of reclaimed materials, such as an old hot air balloon, outdated climbing ropes, and reclaimed timber frames. A first phase of research resulted in a atlas of techniques and know-how spanning thousands of years worth of temporary structures.. Subsequently, the studio divided into groups, each assigned specific roles: one focused on the textile shell, another on ropes, one on coordination, and our group on prototyping and manufacturing timber parts like the A-frame, outer poles, and pegs. Over ten weeks, prototypes for each part were developed in close coordination with the other groups to ensure seamless integration. Regular meetings and consultations promoted exchange, addressed challenges, and optimized the overall design. The collaborative effort led to a practical, durable tent, creating a welcoming space in nature for gathering, exchanging, and contemplation.
