Constructive Detail
The project involves documenting a constructive element, such as a base, wall, opening, or roof, from an ongoing construction site. The objective is to understand how this element influences the overall architectural design. The chosen roof window is part of E2A's Atelierhouses in Rüschlikon Switzerland. The two existing buildings on the site were from the 1970s and no longer met current requirements. The new buildings were designed as atelier houses with various layouts to accommodate different living and working arrangements. The lower floors of the buildings feature concrete walls for structural support and an exposed concrete façade anchored using cantilevered connections. The thermal insulation is placed between the masonry and the façade, acting as a formwork for the exposed concrete. The upper floor and roof are constructed similarly, with a shed roof resting on an internal concrete layer while the desired architectural expression is achieved by the use of a purely cosmetic exposed concrete façade.
